Bigger than comedy - Efosa 'Efex' Iyamu by Jude Idada

This is an autobiographical biography. It is uniquely written in the first person even though it comes from the pen of the third person; hence the point of view is solely that of the subject matter in congruence with verifiable facts and historical accounts. It intimately chronicles the coming of age story of Efosa ‘Efex’ Iyamu from his birth in an orphanage/maternity home to his rising to the lofty heights of working as a Special Assistant to the Comrade Governor Adams Oshiomole.

It is a story of struggle, hope and a never say die attitude; a story of one man’s journey from the feet of poverty and ceaseless need onto the lap of surplus and philanthropy. It is replete with philosophy and the lessons one learns after fighting against the obstacles that society puts on the path of an individual who has lofty goals and dreams but is handicapped by the paucity of material wealth or enabling resources. It speaks of pain, joy, laughter, tears; hope, failures, successes and unending belief in one’s self and the indefatigable power of diligence and good will.

This autobiographical biography shines the light on the centrality of the gift of humour in the life of Efosa ‘Efex’ Iyamu and how this singular talent opened doors for him, propelling him from school at Edo College to the hallowed halls of the University of Benin, even at the same period introducing him to the community as a celebrated comedic voice and force. It also shines light on his will to be defined by much more than comedy. A need to explore all avenues that were opened to him and  develop all relationships he came across in order to raise his station in life and also to have a more fulfilled existence.

It speaks of service and the need to give back. A need that Efosa ‘Efex’ Iyamu satisfies with his charity foundation where he gives back to aspiring comedians and also to the children in the Orphanage where he was born. It also espouses the concept of service in itself, from giving materially to the giving of self in the pursuance of a more equal and more prosperous society.

There are copious accounts of associations with other individuals, from the Comrade Governor to the His Royal Highness the Oba of Benin, from the Archbishop of the Benin Archdiocese of the Catholic Church to the Professors at the University of Benin, Ali Baba to AY, Captains of industry to the common man on the streets. In these recollections light is shed on various events from an insider perspective.

It speaks of the precious love that exists in his marriage and how the support of his wife is a huge part of the engine of his success. In addition to the maturity that having children foists on an individual. Through the ten chapters with titles such as ‘The Vortex’ to ‘Journey to the Edge of Politics’ this is a book that empowers, enlightens, entertains and educates the public by inspiring the reader to look beyond the limitations of their circumstances and the enormity of their challenges in order to write their own destiny.

With flowery prose, enchanting phrases it is a sure page-turner. The apt words of the writer, which come to life in capturing with near exactitude the journey and relationships of Efosa ‘Efex’ Iyamu, this book is a tome for the ages; a story whose time has come.

Efex is the favorite entertainer of Comrade Adams Oshiomole, he was formerly SSA before he was elevated to Executive Director on Entertainment and Protocol.

The Event was attended by Edo state Governor, Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon, Austin Eguaveon, Mr Chidi Ajaere (Chairman God is Good motors) who was also the Chairman of the Occassion, Chief Lucky Imasuen, Apc chairman Barr. Anslem Ojezua, chief judge, Commissioners, Political appointees, Commissioner of Police Edo state, celebrities like I Go dye, Maleke, I Go Save, Gandoki and a host of others.

President Buhari has expressed shock and sadness at the death of Barrister James Ocholi (SAN), who together with his wife and son were killed in a car crash in Abuja on March 6, 2016. President Buhari described the Minister of State for Labour's death as untimely, regretting that Nigeria has lost a key component of the Change agenda.
"Barrister Ocholi was an accomplished and patriotic Nigerian, who was keen to accept the call to service at a time his country needed him," President Buhari said, adding that in the few months he had been in office, the late minister of state had already begun to distinguish himself through his commitment and dedication to his portfolio. The late Ocholi has had a long record of political association with President Buhari. President Buhari also consoled with the government and people of Kogi State, whom he described as having lost a distinguished and irreplaceable son. He prayed that God would comfort them and grant them the grace to bear the loss. "The entire country mourns the loss of this great man, who has sadly left us when we need him most," he said. President Buhari has also sent the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Engineer David Babachir to formally convey the news to members of the deceased family as well as parishioners in his place of worship.
