Pictured is one of the Toyota Hilux vehicles that the kidnappers opened fire on in Akpabuyo district near Calabar, the Cross River state capital on Wednesday, June 22.

The gunmen shot dead a Nigerian driver and kidnapped three Australians, a New Zealander, two Nigerians, and a South African from a worksite in Calabar. The workers are employed by Perth-based mining and engineering company Macmahon Holdings. 

The expatriate contractors according to sources were driving in a convoy of 4 vehicles with the kidnapped persons in one of the two SUVs in the convoy along with two Hilux vehicles.

The hoodlums who were said to number up to 30 were also said to be heavily armed and battle ready prompting the security personnel attached to the expatriates to scamper for safety.

Photos: Man uses his car to knock down thief who robbed & zoomed off on a bike


According to eyewitness Igbinedion Sammy, this happened this morning at 22 road, Festac, Lagos. The robber (pictured) robbed a motorist, immediately got on his bike and zoomed off. The victim gave him a chase with his car and was successfully able to knock him down.

The shocked thief had a deep bloody cut on his head and when he noticed a crowd gathering, he pleaded for people to call police in order to avoid jungle justice. See more photos after the cut.
